Elizabeth Drake
My friend Izzy is a really good friend. I have lived with her for two years and she has been a great roommate. She is an excellent example of living the gospel. She treats everyone with kindness and love. I have watched her befriend members and nonmembers at church and at vet school. She respects other people's views, but holds fast to her own. She encourages everyone to live a righteous life and strives to be a good example of a righteous member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. In times of high stress and hard times, she has an excellent listening ear and offers encouragement and advice. She serves everyone around her and is often busy assisting someone in need. She drives a very old grandma car named "The Crusher" that she willing uses to get people to and from church activities. She is graduating from veterinary school next month and wants to work with lab animals and monkeys. She is not afraid of thrown monkey feces. She loves working out. She has been my support these past two years and I will miss her when we go our separate ways next month. We've lived with a difficult roommate that struggled to live gospel standards. I frequently looked to Izzy for strength and as example of how to handle the situation. I love her and am happy that we are friends and roommates.

Hmmm It's Spring...
Alex might be a keeper...at least for now! We spent Friday, Saturday and Sunday together. Here is my brother's response when I emailed him last night.
Dear Rebecca!
That is really awesome news! Rebecca Cornwall...... Yes I like it! It has a nice ring to it! Hahaha How old is this mister wonderful! Tell me about him! Banana Bread on a third date.......That sounds a bit scandalous if you ask me! Poor Mom! But really that is cool news! Don't worry it doesn't distract me from my mission. Let me know the story of when he first kisses you. Oh and make sure he kisses you! Don't you kiss him, I don't want any unmanly brother in laws. Real men give kisses! Boys get kissed! Hahaha But really good luck!
The "Poor Mom" comment is from my mom's tendency to ask TONS of questions to which I don't know the answer. I had to post Will's response because I love how my brother looks out for me. He wants manly brother-in-laws.
At ward prayer, Alex and I sat really close to each other so the gossip and questions started up. One of the bishopric counselors is a friend from school so he said, "Hey Becca, is there a reason you're sitting so close to Alex?" "Yes." And then I went a millions shades of red. A whole bunch of people walked past at that moment and one guy said, "Wow Becca! I'm always red, but you are really red." Then the counselor said, "You'd better go walk that off." Since this was a new thing, I didn't want everyone to know so quickly but I knew that by sitting close to him that everyone would wonder.

Temple Prep Class
I've been taking temple prep class lately. It has been great. I hope to go on my birthday....I learned/remembered something new today. I should have known but didn't. I've heard of so many people talking about how Satan tries really hard right before big major events so I've tried to be on the lookout for things and be careful. What I forgot/should have known is that there are blessings associated with preparing to go to the temple...How silly of me to forget. I was so worried about warding off the negative that I forgot about the positive. So what is one of the blessings I'm noticing?? THAT I'VE BEEN GOING ON MORE DATES!! It seems to be raining men (do you know that song? "Its raining men! Hallelujah!")
Two weeks ago I went on a date with a guy named Brady Smith (what is it with me and guys named Brady and Brad? I've known some in high school and college). Also, its funny his last name is Smith. I've also liked a few of them... We had fun and went to the only good Mexican food place in the area. I really miss Utah because of all the good Mexican food. I feel like there were at least 2-3 good places per city (and a few crappy ones). Here? Just one good one and a 2-3 really bad ones. Anyways, I had a test the next day so we just wandered around the mall and tried on crazy hats/glasses/etc. Then we went to a jewelry store...weirded me out because somehow we ended up trying on wedding rings. Don't worry I'm not rushing into a wedding! Just weird that trying on stuff in the mall led to the jewelry store?
Last week I went out with Ken Ufford. He took me to a really nice, fancy restaurant. It is a wine bar so it is high class and nice. We had a reservation and everything. I felt a little like I was in the movies at a high priced place! But the sad thing is that fancy restaurants on a first date tend to cause me to clam up. I'm extra sensitive to etiquette and my surroundings and the fact that the guy is spending his life savings on me...etc. So what do I do? I shrink in a hole and have to work really hard to keep up my end of the conversation. Now you may be wondering how I know this...how many expensive first dates have I been on? I can think of at least three. So I recognize a pattern in my behavior and try and try to fight my awkward shyness. It was a weird ending to the date since he didn't walk me to the door. I think he was thrown off somehow or just doesn't like the door scene. I don't like the door step awkward goodbye hug thing so I created a solution. Which I employed with Brady, but couldn't with Ken so whatever. I invite the date in and get a drink of water and sit on the couch for a bit. Then say goodbye after a few minutes of chitchat. Makes it a whole lot less awkward. Because normally as you walk to the door, you know the date's ending and the doorstep scene is approaching.
This week I'm going out with Alex Cornwall. I've noticed him from afar. He seems solid and good. It's funny that he is friends with my friend Brianne, but she has a way of keeping her friends separate. The three of us never really hung out all together so I didn't really know him. But slowly (by accident) we spent some time together with Brianne. I think we kind of hit it off and were laughing and joking. But Brianne gets jealous, gets hurt very easily, holds grudges, and can be quite pessimistic. In fact, she hasn't really talked to me in about two months so I must have done something to upset her. It was funny because I mentioned to my roommate tonight that I had a small crush on Alex, but Brianne would kill me in my sleep if I went after him. Then he asked me out!
So far no second dates, but lots of firsts. And not just these guys have been paying attention. I don't know what to do since this is all so new and foreign to me! It is really nice and has helped me boost my self-confidence. I try not to ever let guys' opinions define my self-esteem but their attention helps a little.

Needy friends?
Do any of you have needy friends? Those ones that if you don't give your 100% attention and they get whiny and pouty? I have one of those friends. I reallly enjoy spending time with this friend and we have a good time. But because of her attitude, sometimes I don't want to see her. At one of the singles dances, I stepped out to talk to a friend, but my friend acted really cold towards me afterwards, all because I stepped out without her. She frequently tries to make me feel guilty for how busy I am.
Tonight, we had plans to spend some good quality girl time watching Castle and eating junk food. She texted me at 2:30 p.m. while I was at a funeral to find out what the plan was for tonight. I called her when I could and she asked if we were going to dinner. I informed her that I had to drive a friend to the grocery store right then and some time that evening I had to do laundry, clean my apartment, and write Valentines. Maybe we could watch Castle at my house while I cleaned. If she didn't want to come to my place, then we'd have to hang out later in the evening. We decided that I would call when I got back from the store and figure out what to do.
I got a text before I got back from the store that said, "So you sound busy do you just want to not hang out tonight?" This is not the first time she has texted me or said something along those lines. Whenever she says this, I get the feeling that she is saying, "Are you too busy to hang out with me? Do you even really want to be with me?" I can hear the hurt and frustration in her voice. It mostly irritates me. I am trying to tell her what my plans are to coordinate with her to see what time we are meeting up. She acts like I am trying to blow her off. In the end, I just feel like saying, "Now look, you asked me to hang out. I agreed. Stop acting like I'm trying to get out of spending time with you. If you have changed your mind, stop blaming me in an effort to help you find an excuse to cancel."
I called my friend when I got back from the store and asked what the plan was for the evening. She told me, "Well you sound too busy to hang out tonight." Maybe I was a little irritated because I said, "Well...I'm usually busy. I don't think that's going to change anytime soon. What time did you want to hang out?" She said that she had a dinner date with a friend. She also hinted that maybe I didn't really want to hang out. I said that I had agreed to hang out and I was willing to. So if she didn't really want to hang out she would call me after dinner.
